Upgrade Lightning Protection System

This project was intended to correct deficiencies in the lightning protection systems at various buildings within the VA Caribbean Healthcare Medical Campus. These buildings were identified through a risk assessment as needing rigorous protection system upgrades.

The lightning protection equipment used for this project followed the specifications of Underwriters Laboratories UL 96 and the National Fire Protection Agency 780 standards for safety.

San Diego Project Management, PSC provided shop drawings indicating the location, size and means of support for all equipment, grounds, cable routings, bonding connections, and further details.

It was determined by the VACHS that it was necessary to establish a common ground for each building at or near the power source entering the building. Also, it was required that the lightning protection system air terminals, electrical system, telephone, antennas, computers, remote telemetry, and radios needed to have their grounds bonded together at this common ground
